Darwin Nunez set up Liverpool’s 4th goal against French club, Toulouse, in the most incredible fashion, with many labeling the player as “an agent of chaos” due to the incident.
Already scoring earlier in the game, Darwin Nunez was denied his second of the night after he dribbled past Toulouse goalkeeper, Guillaume Restes – with the empty net in front of him – and missed the open goal, hitting the bar. Fortunately, the ball fell to his teammate, Ryan Gravenberch who slotted the ball into the back of the net making it 4-1 in favour of Liverpool on the night. Liverpool ran out 5-1 winners at the end of the game with Darwin Nunez scoring his 5th goal of the season in the 34th minute of the game.
A victory on the night puts Liverpool at the top spot in Group E of the UEFA Europa League with three games remaining. Jurgen Klopp’s men have made quick work of their European Competition this season as they remain undefeated in the tournament, scoring 10 goals along the way and only conceding two goals in three games. With a spot in the Round of 32 virtually sealed for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp’s men remain favourites to win the whole thing and could look to redeem their loss in the 2016 Europa League final against Sevilla.
Liverpool, for now, will focus on the competitions present in England as they face a Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest followed by an EFL Cup fixture against A.F.C Bournemouth.
Twitter fans react to Darwin Nunez’s miss against Toulouse
While Darwin Nunez scored for Liverpool earlier on the night, the player made headlines for his role in setting up Ryan Gravenberch’s goal. After a beautiful piece of skill which saw him beat the last man as well as the Toulouse goalkeeper, Darwin Nunez hit the bar – on an empty goal – which was scored by Ryan following the rebound.
Fans on ‘X’ were quick to react to the player’s miss with many drawing comparisons with Fernando Torres’s miss against Manchester United in 2011. Here are some of the reactions: –
Many Premier League fans have labelled Darwin Nunez to be the most entertaining player in the league. His ability to change a game on its head – as shown in his brace against Newcastle United – is also supplemented by his ability to miss ‘easy’ opportunities. Still only 24, under the mentorship of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Marcelo Bielsa at Uruguay, many have faith that the player will become a major threat in the coming years.
