AC Milan saw off Genoa in Serie A. The clash on Sunday was filled with unexpected moments. Christian Pulisic scored the only goal in the game. However, it was Milan striker Olivier Giroud who made all the headlines. The clash on Saturday featured 2 red cards, with either keeper sent off. Moreover, it was Giroud who filled in between the sticks for Milan in the final moments.

Christian Pulisic scored a brilliant goal on the turn to put Milan in the lead. However, Mike Maignan saw red after he went in flying, knee-first into a Genoa player. Milan had used all their substitutes. This meant that their tallest player, Olivier Giroud donned the goalkeeper gloves for the final minutes. He became an instant hero through his 114th-minute heroics.

Giroud went flying into the danger area. The Milan #9 made a brilliant double save to ensure Milan took home all 3 points. The 3 points earned at Genoa meant that Milan rose to the top of Serie A. With 21 points in 8 games, Milan are 2 points ahead of rivals Inter who sit 2nd. Following the game, Giroud said, “It was really a special moment when I made the save… almost like a goal”.

Fans react to Olivier Giroud’s Heroics in Goal

World Cup Winner Olivier Giroud put on a brilliant cameo in goal. His heroics ensured that Milan kept a clean sheet in spite of Mike Maignan‘s red card. Fans were quick to praise the striker for his saves. Moreover, his ‘clean sheet’ meant that Andre Onana was the target of many trolls. A fan commented that Onana was no match for the Frenchman.

However, the striker made a poor mistake to concede for Spurs, unlike Giroud. Giroud also has 4 goals and 3 assists for the club.
