“Better than that big mouth” – Fans react to Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez HILARIOUSLY calling teammate Brahim Diaz ‘Ibrahimovic’ after his goal in the Madrid Derby

Real Madrid faced local rivals Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Supercopa de Espana, aka The Spanish Super Cup, which was played in the King Saud University Stadium, Riyadh. It was the first match of the competition. It proved to be a goal-fest as Real Madrid won 5-3. 

The first goal came in the 6th minute, as Mario Hermoso opened the scoring. It didn’t take the La Liga table toppers much time to equalize, as Antonio Rudiger scored from a corner. They got their lead when Ferland Mendy scored in the 29th minute. But Antonio Griezzman took just eight minutes to equalize, as skillfully got rid of two defenders marking him and scored from the edge of the box. 

The first half finished with the scoreline of 2-2, with the match being equally contested. The start of the 2nd half had many close calls, as strikes from Alvaro Morata and Vinicius Jr. almost got their teams the lead. Finally, one player did manage to score, but in the wrong net. Rudiger, who had scored Real’s first goal, gave Atletico the lead. After Kepa attempted to claim a cross, he spilled it onto Rudiger and it trickled into the net in the 78th. 

Dani Carvajal finally scored the equalizer in the 85th minute after Jan Oblak blocked two shots by Vinicius and Jude Bellingham. This caused the game to go into extra time, which meant another 30 minutes to be played. It was once again a heated 30 minutes before Joselu got Real the lead in the 116th minute. 

After being awarded a throw-in in the 122nd minute, Cesar Azpilicueta took a throw-in which failed to reach any of his teammates in the box. Joselu cleared the ball away, which landed in the opposition’s half. Oblak had brought himself Real’s half to assist the attack but now found himself in a sprint race with Brahim Diaz. Diaz beat the keeper but had a challenge from another Atletico Madrid defender as well. Being 35 yards away from the empty goal, Diaz decided to do a Hail Mary and shot at the goal, which ensured his team’s 5th goal of the match. 

Fans react as Lucas Vasquez terms Brahim Diaz as “Ibrahimovic” 

As Diaz’s goal knocked out their local rivals, Lucas Vasquez commented “You’re too fast Ibrahimovic,” referencing Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s iconic bicycle kick against England in 2012. The forward had also played with the Swede during his time with AC Milan. 

Fans liked the comparison, with many joking about how he’s better than Ibrahimovic. Some joked about how he celebrated and looked like Ibrahimovic. Some were surprised with his pace, beating Oblak to the ball.

FC Barcelona will now play CA Osasuna on the night of 11th January. The winner of this match will play Real Madrid in the finals, which will be played on 14th January. Real will play 2 out of their next 3 matches with Atletico. One will be in the Copa del Rey and one will be in the La Liga.
