At the age of 32, Eden Hazard has announced his retirement calling an end to his 16-year career as a professional football player. The ex-Chelsea star shared a long post on Instagram, earlier today, officially announcing his retirement from the beautiful game.
Written in French, the Belgian forward paid tribute to his former clubs of Lille, Chelsea, and Real Madrid. He thanked the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) for allowing him the honor of representing the country in the biggest stages of football. Lastly, he gave thanks to all his fans stating, “Finally, a huge thank you to you, my fans, who have followed me for all these years and for your encouragement everywhere I have played,” ending his statement by telling the public, “Now is the time to enjoy my loved ones and have new experience. See you off the field soon my friends.”
Since the announcement, many players and clubs have given their salutations to the players. Ex-teammate at Real Madrid, Aurélien Tchouameni tweeted, “If you love good football, then you enjoy Eden Hazard. Iconic.” Vinicius Jr. replied to Eden’s post calling him a ‘Legend’. Manchester United defender, Raphael Varane also replied to the post writing, “What a player !! Good luck for the next chapter Eden!”
Finally, Chelsea football club released a post on X about the player, giving their respects to one of their greatest ever with the quote, “Eden Hazard: one of the greatest to play the game. Thank you for everything, and good luck in your retirement.”
Eden Hazard’s career may have come to an abrupt end due to his spell at Real Madrid and his constant battle with injuries. Fans, however, will remember the player for the way he would glide past players in the Premier League and dazzle the crowd at Stamford Bridge.
