During the minute’s silence before France’s game against the Netherlands, a video captured Jean-Clair Todibo, a defender for France and OGC Nice, laughing. This solemn moment honored a teacher in France who tragically lost their life to an attack.

Todibo, 23 years old and on the bench at the time, smirked as the minute’s silence paid tribute to the teacher killed in Arras, France, just 331 kilometers away from the Johan Cruyff Arena where the match took place. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the act as “barbaric” while commending the teacher’s bravery, noting that they undoubtedly saved many lives.

Due to the brutal nature of the killing, Jean-Clair Todibo has come under fire owing to his ‘inability’ to stay quiet while the stadium was paying its respects. Many online have labeled the player’s behaviors as ‘disgusting’. Some have even called for the player to be removed from the National Team with immediate effect.

However, not all fans share the same sentiment. Online X users have come in defense of the player stating the action was towards something else in the stadium. These fans said that it should not be taken seriously or as a sign of disrespect.

France were 2-1 winners on the night as a brace by PSG player, Kylian Mbappe ensured Les Bleus’ perfect run in the UEFA Euro Qualifier continues.

After the video emerged online, X users swiftly responded to the incident. Some criticized the player’s actions, while others defended him, claiming such incidents are widespread. The 23-year-old Manchester United target may be concerned that this incident could deter clubs from signing him, as many European clubs are interested in his impressive skills.

Furthermore, Jean-Clair Todibo couldn’t find a place in Barcelona’s lineup due to strong competition from players like Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet. However, a loan to OGC Nice in 2021, followed by a permanent transfer, has helped Todibo become a top young defender in the world. His contract runs until 2027. So, Nice can wait for a substantial offer, as they don’t want to lose their star player.
