Lionel Messi‘s recent MLS game with Inter Miami ended in a loss, drawing attention to his struggling performance in the American League. So, fans didn’t shy away from taking a shot at the Argentine maestro, saying he belongs in the Indian Super League (ISL)
Kerwin Vargas scored a goal in the 13th minute, securing Charlotte FC’s spot in the playoffs. Messi, a Ballon d’Or nominee, has struggled with just one goal and two assists in six appearances for Inter Miami. His goals-per-game ratio is a meager 0.2, and he has a record of three wins, one draw, and two losses in his first MLS season.
The game against Charlotte FC was Messi’s first start for the club since his MLS game against Toronto where the player was subbed off midway through the first half due to a muscle injury he suffered against Ecuador during Argentina’s 2026 World Cup Qualifier.
However, his return was not fruitful for the club as Charlotte FC shut down the Miami-based side even though they boasted more possession of the ball. This game marked the first time in Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami tenure that the player had lost a game after being involved in the Starting XI.
With Lionel Messi’s season over till February, the Argentine will now put his attention towards his national team who are currently first in the group in the World Cup qualifiers.
