Virgil Van Dijk was responsible for a last-minute win against Greece on Monday. The Liverpool and Netherlands defender dispatched a last-minute penalty awarded to his team against Greece. The 32-year-old made no mistake from 12 yards after Wout Weghorst failed to convert his penalty. The Dutch #9 saw his penalty saved by Vlachodimos in the 27th minute. Oranje won the game 1-0 against Greece.
Netherlands were on the back of a 2-1 defeat to France in Group B after Kylian Mbappe‘s magnificent brace proved to be too much for the home side. Following the game against France, Van Dijk complained about the pitch conditions. He said, “The pitch wasn’t very good tonight.”
Now, in a similar incident, Virgil Van Dijk is yet again heard berating the conditions of the pitch at the highest level of the footballing scene. “It’s unbelievable how they’re letting this happen at the highest level,” the Dutch skipper said.
