AFC Bournemouth is a club formed in 1899 in the town of Bournemouth, Dorset. Originally named Boscombe FC, after the suburb it was founded in, it had many name changes until it was fixed to what it is right now. The logo has also gone through multiple changes throughout the years, with the club having six logos in 124 years. And maybe they could soon shift to their 7th.

The current badge is of a former player, Dickie Dowsett, heading a ball with a background of black and red stripes. This outline of Dowsett heading the ball has been on the Bournemouth badge since 1972, apart from a short period from 1981 to 1983. But now they are planning to ditch the silhouette of Dowsett all together.

Footy Headlines, a site that reports on matters regarding football equipment, has revealed that the club has trademarked a new logo. The new logo will now have two red cherries, referencing their nickname. Instead of being of shield shape, it will now be a circle. At the top, the club’s name is written and at the bottom “The Red Cherries” is written. It is a homage to the logo the club used for two years in 1981.

Since 1936, the club has had six logos, with the shape of each apart from one being a crest. The very first badge was just a medieval shield, which they kept from 1936 to 1966. In 1966, they changed it to just a red square with “BFC” written on it. By 1972, they adopted the Dowsett badge but shifted to a circle with two cherries in it.

They returned to the Dowsett silhouette in 1983, with the player’s outline within the shield. In 1988, they added the words, “AFC Bournemouth” below the shield and kept it till 2013. In 2013, they shifted the name of their club to the top of the shield and have kept it like that ever since.

Fans disappointed by new Bournemouth badge

When the fans saw the new AFC Bournemouth logo, many were left disappointed with it. Many fans disapproved of the new logo, calling it a massive downgrade. Some Manchester City fans are trying to get rid of the Erling Haaland trademark on it. Meanwhile, a fan claimed it looked more ‘professional’ than the current logo.
