Lionel Messi is all set to make his debut for Inter Miami on Saturday. It will be against Mexican club Cruz Azul in the League Cup. The match will take place in the DRV PNK Stadium, where the World Cup winner was unveiled on Monday.
The Argentine signed for the MLS club after leaving PSG for free when his contract ended. The player had numerous offers on the table including a more lucrative one from Al-Hilal, which would have made him the richest footballer in the world. However, he rejected it in favor of Miami due to the city’s better living conditions.
A return to Barcelona was also in the cards but was ruled out due to their financial state. Inter Miami is heavily struggling in the league this season. They sit at the bottom of the table in the Eastern Conference. Huge reinforcements were required to turn this around. The club has managed to do so, by signing arguably the greatest player of all time. They also replaced their coach Phil Neville with former Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino.
Now, they are trying to bring Lionel Messi’s former club teammates into the squad. Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have already been signed by the club. Both of them left the Blaugranas this summer. Other players like Andres Iniesta and Luis Suarez are also likely to make a move.
