“Oilsea corruption; VAR needs to be removed”- Fans slam Chelsea after entering UCL quarters due to controversial penalty decision
Sterling and Havertz send the Blues through to the quarter-finals.
Chelsea overturned a 1-0 deficit from the first leg and won 2-1 on aggregate against Borussia Dortmund, courtesy of goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz. The German gave Chelsea the lead with a retaken penalty after Sterling scored towards the end of the first half. Graham Potter was particularly animated tonight, having recently been questioned by the media on his lack of excitement on the touchline.
Borussia Dortmund arrived at Stamford Bridge with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of Karim Adeyemi’s goal in the first leg. Graham Potter’s side dominated most of the game, creating multiple chances and even hitting the post. Despite this, they could not score.
Their lack of efficiency in front of the goal continued in the second leg. A scuffed shot from Kai Havertz hit the post, and Kalidou Koulibaly somehow missed an open goal. Havertz finally had the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside against Raheem Sterling.
Sterling gave the home side the lead in the 43rd minute. The Englishman received the ball in the box after some neat build play from Ben Chilwell, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz. The chance seemed to have gone begging after Sterling’s missed control. However, he recovered to slot the ball neatly past Dortmund goalkeeper Alexander Meyer.
Kai Havertz gave Chelsea the lead early in the second half with a calm penalty. The penalty had to be retaken after Havertz missed the first time because Dortmund players entered the box before the penalty taker touched the ball. Another offside call against Sterling denied Chelsea a third.
