Matheus Nunes' lone strike was enough to seal the game

“Replaced Potter with manager worse than him”- Fans slam Todd Boehly and Frank Lampard after Chelsea loses to Wolves in PL

Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated Chelsea 1-0 at the Molineux Stadium to move up to 12th on the Premier League table. It was a disastrous first game as interim manager for Frank Lampard as a solitary goal from Matheus Nunes was enough to settle the tie.

After a goalless first half hour, Wolves came to life as Daniel Podence crossed a dangerous ball in towards Diego Costa which Kalidou Koulibaly cleared. The ball landed in an uncomfortable wide angle for Matheus Nunes on the right-hand side. But that did not prove to be a problem for the Portuguese as he rocketed the ball into the far corner past Kepa Arrizabalaga to give Wolves the lead.

The first half was widely dominated by the home side. However, Chelsea held more possession of the ball in the second half as they looked dangerously close to scoring every time they came marching forward. But the Wolves held on to secure the hard-fought victory.

Chelsea slumped to their 11th defeat of the season as they stayed in the bottom half of the Premier League. Wolves put on an impeccable defensive performance as they shut down every oncoming Chelsea attack.

Wolves, however, would be delighted with the result as they move further away from the drop zone. The relegation battle this season is the closest it’s ever been and such a result for Wolves could be massive for them staying up.

Wolves take on Brentford next in the Premier League on April 15. As for Chelsea, they travel to Real Madrid for the Champions League quarterfinal first leg on April 12.
