It was a frantic start at the San Siro as Inter Milan scored two goals in eleven minutes to stun arch-rivals AC Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final. Goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan mean the Nerrazzurri are already favourites to reach the final for the first time since they won the trophy in 2009-10.
Inter started magnificently, with Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko hooking a volley straight into the top-right corner with his left foot. He had Hakan Calhanoglu to thank, with the Turk providing an inch-perfect delivery that allowed Dzeko to steer the ball towards the goal comfortably. Things went from bad to worse for Milan, as Mkhitaryan was put through by Federico DiMarco just three minutes later and smashed the ball past goalkeeper Mike Maignan from close range.
Calhanoglu then hit the post in the 15th minute after a spectacular strike from outside the box. Nicolo Barella collected the ball from the rebound and directed the ball to Mkhitaryan, but the Armenian missed a glorious chance, firing straight into the hands of Maignan.
Regardless, Inter became only the fourth side to take a two-goal lead in the opening 11 minutes of a Champions League semi-final. Juventus vs Manchester United in April 1999, Manchester United vs Arsenal in May 2009, and Manchester City vs Real Madrid in April 2022 were the other three. Meanwhile, Milan conceded more goals in the opening 11 minutes than they had in their previous six Champions League games combined.

The two teams will take on each other in the second leg on May 16 in what will no doubt be an electric atmosphere, much like the one we have seen today. However, AC Milan will need to buckle up and provide more of a threat in the second leg if they hope to progress to the final. Regardless, it will no doubt be a fitting goodbye to the San Siro as we know it, as its two residents lock horns in what promises to be a blockbuster European night.
