FC Barcelona made a stunning comeback on Sunday, in La Liga, overcoming a 2-goal deficit. They were down 2-0 in the 29th minute, with Bryan Zaragoza scoring both goals. But Xavi‘s team displayed remarkable resilience and equalized at 2-2, narrowly missing a late winning goal. Despite the draw, a Barcelona young talent stole the spotlight.

Lamine Yamal, a rising star from La Masia, achieved history on Sunday. The pacy winger capitalized on a missed shot by João Felix and calmly scored into the open net. At just 16 years and 87 days old, Yamal became the youngest goal scorer ever in the Spanish top league. Unfortunately, his record-breaking moment didn’t secure a victory for the Blaugranas against Granada.

Earlier, Yamal broke the record for being the youngest player to appear in the Champions League and La Liga as he broke into the Barcelona senior squad at such a young age. Following his goal against Granada the Barca fans and the whole football community are hailing the youngster. While many have resorted to the more Gen next terminologies to praise him, saying, “He is HIM.” Most of the fans hail the 16-year-old as the “Next Messi”.

However, a minority- old- section of the fanbase is deciding not to indulge in that much euphoria by oversaying things since there have been instances in the past where the young, developing player has been labeled the ‘next Messi’ only to succumb under the pressure of the label. Similarly in Yamal’s case, well, he has a high ceiling, but one must wait before putting him on the same pedestal as the club legend and one of the GOATS of the game- Lionel Messi.
