The UEFA Champions League draws took place on Thursday as we take a first look at which teams will battle it out for a knockout spot. Real Madrid drew group C in their placements. Joining the likes of Napoli, Union Berlin and Braga.
Fans took no time to react to the group stage draws as the excitement for the new UCL season was palpable. Los Blancos who have not missed the tournament since the ’96/97 season will be happy with their group, or that’s what the fans believe. Napoli’s highest placement in the Champions League was their run last year till the QFs where they were eliminated by A.C Milan. Braga made their UCL debut only back in the ’10/11 season and Bundesliga side, Union Berlin will be making their debut in the tournament this season. It comes as no surprise that people feel that the Champions League group stage draws are ‘rigged’.
Real Madrid are the most decorated team in the tournament’s history. With over 14 titles, Los Blancos enter each season with the intention to add to their collection. Jude Bellingham’s signing was made for such reasons, as to secure the title. After a disappointing exit to Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City team last season, Madrid will look to improve as they are in the process of replacing their aging midfield- which won them 5 UCLs in 10 years.
With a favorable group draw and the new UCL format in place, Madrid’s ambitions remain the same.
Twitter reacts to Real Madrid’s ‘easy’ UCL group
Social Media has taken no time to react to the Champions League draw that happened on Thursday. Many have termed Group F as the ‘Group of Death‘. Fans have also taken notice of Real Madrid’s draw this season. Los Blancos are always strong contenders for the title. However, fans believe that each season the team in white receives a favorable draw. The last time Madrid were in a group with genuine title contenders was the 19/20 season where they drew PSG.
It’s fair to say that fans share the same opinion on this. Real Madrid should go through and do it comfortably. The fixtures are yet to be announced, but teams will be hoping that the UCL is not played between important games against top teams.
