“Getting cooked by 13th placed La Liga team”- Fans troll Manchester United after they tumble against Sevilla in Europa League
The Manchester club were hoping to avenge their 2021 loss to the Spanish outfit in the Semi-Finals of the competition.
Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán played host to a rampant display from Sevilla against Manchester United. The two sides drew in the first league of the Quarter-Finals after two late own goals by the Red Devils. The Manchester club were without key center-backs, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, who missed the game with injuries.
The Red Devils were definitely fresher off the start, but a calamitous error from Harry Maguire in the 9th minute of the match gave the Palanganas the lead. The Manchester United captain was closed down after a sloppy pass from his goalkeeper, and Youssef En-Nesyri capitalized on the error. The Morrocan netted his 50th goal for the club by slotting his shot in the bottom left corner.
The first goal blew the game wide open. The match transformed into an end-to-end spectacle, with speed in transition being the motive. The home side seemed to have doubled their lead in the 40th minute with a Luis Ocampos strike, but VAR overturned the decision, having adjudged offside in the buildup.
The hosts finally doubled their advantage three minutes after the break when Loic Balde headed in a Rakitic corner past De Gea. The visitors tried to desperately launch a late charge but were repelled by Sevilla. The Palanganas were the more composed team, while Manchester United were simply throwing everything they had at the opposition.
The Spanish side made it three in the 82nd minute and 5-2 on aggregate. A poor touch from David De Gea allowed En-Nesyri to capitalize, and lob in a shot from 30 yards out. The third goal of the night ended Manchester United’s European hopes and dreams, and left the players in tatters.
The Palanganas win takes them to the Semi-Final of the Europa League. A victory over Juventus would take the side to Budapest, where they would fight for their seventh title in the competition.
