Tottenham Hotspur have lost their second Premier League game in a row after conceding two late goals against Wolverhampton Wanderers, away from home. With both goals coming in at extra-time, Ange Postecoglou – who won Manager of the Month for October – has already lost his first two games in November.
Despite early promise with Brennan Johnson’s goal in the third minute, injuries and suspensions hit Spurs hard at the Molineux. Especially, James Maddison‘s absence. Unfortunately for the Lillywhites, Wolves secured a late victory with goals from Pablo Sarabia in the 90+1st minute and Mario Lemina in the 90+7th minute. Even though the hosts had only 41% possession, they outshot Spurs nearly threefold, sealing a well-deserved win.
With consecutive losses in the Premier League for Spurs, the London side could see themselves drop down to fourth place after spending a couple of weeks as league leaders. Tottenham manager, Ange Postecoglou spoke after the loss against Wolves and said:
Part of the pain of football. You've just got to take it. Can't fault the player's commitment and effort.
Further, he reiterated his faith in his players.
As the International break approaches the man from Greece will be hoping to set things right at the club as they take on Aston Villa on the 26th of November followed by a blockbuster game against Manchester City at the Etihad.
Twitter reacts to Tottenham Hotspur conceding two late goals
Following their defeat at the Molineux, fans of ‘X’ have come quickly to mock Spurs after they ‘bottled’ their lead away and threw the game against Wolves in the dying minutes. With comments the likes of, “The Spurs we know are back,” flooding football social media, several fans are happy to see the alleged ‘downfall of Spurs’.
Here are some of the fans’ reactions:
The loss of James Maddison will be a huge miss for Spurs after reports claimed the player could be out for approximately 1-2 months. Bad news for Spurs as they take on league leaders, Manchester City before his reported return.
The games that will be missed by the player are vital for the club if they wish to keep their hopes for the title alive. At the moment it seems dire. However, with ‘Ange-ball’, Spurs fans are also hopeful that their team can pull through the hard times.
