In a hilarious post-match interview, Netherlands defender Virgil Van Dijk was heard blaming a bizarre reason behind their loss to France. Fans on social media drew comparisons to his performance and sulking similar to his club manager, Jurgen Klopp.
The Netherlands had a pretty mediocre performance against the French team. Kylian Mbappe stood out as the player with a golden foot as he scored twice, returning to his goalscoring form. He battled Lutsharel Geertruida to score the first goal early in the match and then scored a beautiful second goal in the top right corner of the net.
French manager Didier Deschamps was in high spirits with his players’ performances, especially Aurelien Tchouameni and Antoinne Griezzman, who he has been playing in the midfield. The only highlight from yesterday’s match for the Dutch was debutant Quilindschy Hartman scoring his first goal in the game’s dying moments.
After this humiliating defeat, the Netherlands is third in the group, while France is first. France also has a perfect six out of six record as they do not look to make excuses, unlike the Dutch side. When even their senior player blames the pitch, they can hardly be motivated to perform better.
