La Liga has been made aware of an incident before the El Clasico at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys which saw a 7-year-old harassed by BarcaUltras who shouted obscenities at the child, throwing a firecracker at his feet as well. The complaint was lodged by the child’s father, Jaime Fernández, who states the actions were committed due to his child donning a Real Madrid scarf.
In an attempt to purchase tickets to the game, the family was waiting at the gate of the venue when 20 to 30 Barca Ultras came up and harassed the child calling him a “dog, pig, son of a b*tch.” The father claimed the harassment was done due to the child wearing a Real Madrid scarf which the child got from the DAZN booth as he liked the color white. Suffering from Grade 1 autism, Barca Ultras also threw firecrackers at the child’s feet which caused the boy to panic and crouch down to the ground.

Along with shouting obscenities, the Ultras also threatened to burn down the child’s scarf and did not care when the child’s mother informed them of his condition. The father stated explaining the condition made the Ultras want to hurt the boy more:
But they were coming even higher.
Jaime Fernández also mentioned how the incident affected his other child who was 3 years old and claims he “was not well the next day either.”
How will La Liga handle this ‘Barca Ultras’ situation?
While the father of the child has denounced and lodged a complaint to La Liga regarding the events that took place on the day, Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr. also suffered from racial abuse from the Barcelona crowd following the club’s victory in the El Clasico. The league released a statement which read:
La Liga has been working from the outset to identify the individuals involved in making racist insults and will file the relevant charges as is always the case.

However, this is but one of the few cases La Liga has taken charge of. Cases of racism and abuse are rampant in the Spanish League as shown by Vinicius who shared a video online about the various club supporters who have racially abused the player along with hanging a doll of the player by the neck.
Little action was taken on those cases and if La Liga picks and chooses cases rather than resolves every case of one of the league’s star players, a normal fan trying to buy tickets will most likely not see justice from La Liga.
