Clement Lenglet to Tottenham?

Clement Lenglet to Tottenham?

The France international, who is not in the club’s plans for next season, has been in discussions with Tottenham and FC Barcelona about a loan switch for weeks.

Spurs are willing to pay the majority of Lenglet’s salary, but Barca would wish for a permanent move since they need to reduce their labor costs.

Lenglet hasn’t said if he wants to move to England, but after choosing to stay in past transfer windows, he is reportedly open to leaving Barca. He may chat with Spurs manager Antonio Conte in the upcoming days to help him decide on his near future, according to a source who spoke to ESPN.

🚨Talks are ongoing between Tottenham and Barcelona over Clement Lenglet on loan.

🇪🇸Catalan side (who wanted a permanent transfer but are open to loan deals) hopes Lenglet can be convinced.

Lenglet, 27, is among a number of players that Barca manager Xavi Hernandez has urged to go this summer after informing the center-back that he is not in his plans.

Lenglet has been demoted further down the pecking order by Barca’s agreement to recruit Andreas Christensen from Chelsea on a free transfer, while Ronald Araujo has signed a new long-term contract.

While Gerard Pique and Eric Garcia are still with the team, ESPN claimed on Thursday that Xavi is also interested in signing Jules Kounde from Sevilla. Oscar Mingueza and Samuel Umtiti have also been informed that they would not be part of the club’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

Barca has had trouble offloading the players they have made accessible for moves thus far, but in order to make room for acquisitions this summer, they are hoping Lenglet will agree to move to London. Before Barca can enroll new arrivals, including Christensen, players must depart.

Spurs, meanwhile, are looking to bolster Conte’s back three this summer by bringing in-depth competition at center-back. A deal has so far been difficult to reach with the Italian club, despite ESPN’s prior reports that they would wish to recruit Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan.

Milan Skriniar, a colleague of Bastoni’s at Inter, has also been mentioned; the French soccer club PSG is said to be interested in the Slovakian defender. Although left-back Ben Davies was frequently utilized in the back three last season, they currently have three alternatives at center-back in Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, and Davinson Sanchez.
