Erling Haaland is undoubtedly one of the biggest talents in World football. The Manchester City #9’s most recent display of how good of a goal scorer he is came against Luton Town. The Norwegian striker scored five goals against a helpless Luton in the FA Cup. While there are rumors surrounding potential interest from Real Madrid, FC Barcelona have not been linked with the player as of late.
However, recent rumors imply that Erling Haaland’s agents met with Catalan representatives in Barcelona. While Erling Haaland to FC Barcelona is a very good deal in terms of footballing prospects, the club’s abysmal track record when it comes to finances stands out like a sore thumb. From Lionel Messi‘s departure to debt and caps on transfer policy, the club have struggled in recent seasons to find workarounds to their financial bottleneck.

The 23-year-old is under contract at the Etihad till 2027 and has a reported release clause of around 200 million euros. The player also earns around £28.8 million per year, exclusive of bonuses and sponsorships.
While FC Barcelona being able to better or match these numbers remains out of the question, the fact that Haaland’s agents have met with Barca representatives has made social media take notice.
Fans laugh at Barcelona as club tries to ‘sign’ Erling Haaland
Can Barcelona afford a big-name player like Erling Haaland? Does Joan Laporta think he has unlimited money in the bank? Fans have come up with several questions as soon as Barcelona and Haaland were mentioned in the same sentence. A fan said that Barcelona still haven’t learnt how to behave in the transfer market and laughed at the unrealistic prospect of going for Haaland.

Another supporter pointed out the source of the news and told fans to not believe a word Gerard Romero says. Many were convinced that this news was pure ‘delusion’ and that Barca fans are living in their own reality.
Some spammed images of Haaland laughing and others told news outlets to stop fooling audiences for interactions. With the potential arrival of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, many believe that Barcelona are in need of Haaland to reignite a rivalry that emulates that of Messi vs Ronaldo.
Barcelona, in terms of finances and football, find themselves in a pickle. The club are 8 points from the top and trail Real Madrid and Girona in the table. Even though the club insist that they are on the right track to repaying their loans, their financial constraints have impacted their transfer strategy as well. The club have recently focused on bringing in players who are out of contact or good players on loan deals, mostly without an option to buy.
