FC Barcelona to activate ‘fourth’ economic lever to register signings including Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha: Reports
Laporta provided big updates on club captain and talisman Lionel Messi And Ronald Koeman’s Future at the club.
To raise the funds required to sign their new summer signings, Barcelona is prepared to sell a further 24.5 percent stake in Barca Studios. This summer, the club has already pulled three “levers,” selling significant portions of their TV and merchandising rights as well as their original 24.5 percent stake in Barca Studios to Socios.com.
Although La Liga has yet to agree to the terms of their business this summer, particularly the sale of their TV rights, which Barcelona is accused of inflating by €150 million, president Joan Laporta had hoped that additional asset sales would not be required.
The Athletic reports that GDA Luma are close to buying nearly a quarter of Barca Studios for a cool €100m, putting them one step closer to meeting the league’s salary requirements.
Even so, it is anticipated that it will not be sufficient to register the new signings. Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, as well as Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto, who became free agents this summer but ultimately signed new contracts, still need to register with La Liga.
Barcelona will need to clear out the deadwood and sell some of their prized assets
The most likely option to consider is further salary deferments among the current roster as Barcelona continues to pursue player sales, including the potential sale of Frenkie de Jong.
Both midfielder Sergio Busquets and centre back Gerard Pique have been asked to accept pay reductions for the remaining two years of their respective contracts. The aforementioned seven players are currently ineligible to play in Barcelona’s La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.
