FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on Thursday that Brazil forward Vinicius Jr. will lead a special Anti-racism committee. This committee has the objective of suggesting stricter punishments for discriminatory behavior in football as the number of instances has seen a sudden spike in recent days.
The player has repeatedly been subject to racist abuse this season in the league games. La Liga reported the match against Valencia in May as the 10th incident involving Vinicius Jr. to the authorities. However, the Real Madrid forward has expressed disdain multiple times over the lack of action taken by the league.
Speaking to the media after meeting the Brazil forward, Infantino said, “There will be no more football with racism in it. The games should be stopped immediately when it happens. Enough is enough,”
“I asked Vinicius to lead this group of players that will present stricter punishments against racism that will later be implemented by all football authorities around the world. He continued saying they need to hear players anymore and are serious about it,” added Infantino.
“We need harder punishments. We can’t tolerate anymore racism in football. As president of FIFA, I feel I needed to talk personally with Vinicius about it,” said the president of the footballing watchdogs.
