FIFA suspends All India Football Federation and takes away the country’s right to host U17 women’s World Cup

Due to “undue influence from other parties,” FIFA suspended India on Tuesday and revoked its eligibility to host the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, which is set to take place in October.
In its 85-year history, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has never been prohibited by FIFA. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) will be suspended with effect immediately, the FIFA stated in a statement, “due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes.”
“The suspension will be removed after an order to establish a committee of administrators to assume the authority of the AIFF Executive Committee has been revoked and the AIFF administration has fully regained control of the AIFF’s daily operations,” the statement reads.

Praful Patel was removed from his position as AIFF president on May 18 by the Supreme Court for failing to hold elections that were scheduled to take place in December 2020. The Court then appointed a three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA), led by former Chief Justice AR Dave, to oversee AIFF operations.
The CoA was also required to draught its constitution in accordance with the model rules and the National Sports Code. The FIFA has stated that it is in discussions with the spots ministry and is hopeful of a beneficial result regarding the women’s age group showcase event, therefore it is not ruling out any choices for India.
The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, which was slated to take place in India from October 11–30, 2022, cannot currently be hosted in India as scheduled due to the ban. FIFA is determining the tournament’s future steps and, if and when necessary, will bring the issue to the Bureau of the Council.
“FIFA is hopeful that a favourable outcome to the matter may still be obtained and is in constant and constructive touch with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India.” Days after the Supreme Court ordered the national federation elections, FIFA threatened to suspend the AIFF and revoke its right to host the women’s U-17 World Cup on August 5.
On Wednesday, August 3, the Supreme Court issued an order directing the All India Football Federation’s executive committee to quickly hold elections in accordance with the timetable suggested by the Committee of Administrators (CoA), which is currently in charge of the national federation’s operations. Due to the highest court’s approval of the CoA’s timeline, the polling process started on August 13 and the elections are scheduled for August 28.
