President of the Spanish FA, Luis Rubiales, has been provisionally suspended from all football-related activities by FIFA. This comes after the President had non-consensually kissed Spanish player, Jenni Hermoso in the mouth.

The suspension will be enforced with immediate effect for an initial period of 90 days. The Spanish FA and Rubiales have also been instructed to not contact Hermoso in any way. The President is currently facing these charges for grabbing his crotch after winning the World Cup and also kissing a player without her consent. The President had initially apologized for his actions of grabbing the crotch. Rubiales however refused to change his stance on the kiss, “The same as the one I would give to one of my daughters” in his words.

Spain win the Women’s World Cup in Australia as Luis Rubiales is seen grabbing his crotch. Sitting next to royalty, the Princess of Asturias, 17-year-old Leonar, his actions were deemed extremely inappropriate. The medals were then handed to the players where the camera caught Luis Rubiales locking lips with Jenni Hermoso, which did not seem like a simple peck. Hermoso is then seen in the dressing room celebrations stating she did not enjoy the kiss.

The Spanish FA then released a statement saying Hermoso still considers Rubiales a great compatriot and that the kiss was nothing to worry about. The news, however, is revealed to be fake and forged by the FA. On Friday, 25th August, The Spanish FA hosted a press conference with everyone expecting the Rubiales to resign. Not only did he refuse to resign, but he also downplayed the kissing incident.

Many watchers were disgusted by what they heard and made their voices public with many players also making their voices heard. In less than 24 hours, 81 Spanish Players, including the WC winning squad, stated they would reject any call-up to the squad.

The Spanish FA responded by stating that these players had an obligation to their nation and would charge Jenni Hermoso with a legal complaint. Now with Rubiales suspended, fans eagerly await what will happen next.
