Jurgen Klopp is planning a significant makeover of his ailing Liverpool squad this summer after a turbulent season. Klopp’s players are striving to qualify for next year’s Champions League, less than a year after their chances of a record quadruple were destroyed.

A host of changes are coming at Anfield, regardless of whether they finish in the top four. Klopp’s midfield is set to be revamped, and a slew of high-profile players have already been linked with a transfer to Anfield. Brighton’s Alexis MacAllister and Bayern Munich’s highly touted Ryan Gravenberch are among those named. However, it is not only incoming deals that Klopp and the Anfield management will be looking for this summer. Several players are poised to leave Merseyside permanently in the coming months.

Unsurprisingly, considering Klopp’s aim to rebuild his midfield, most of the names slated to leave Anfield are midfielders. Since arriving on deadline day in the summer, Arthur Melo has failed to make an impression. He announced earlier this week that he intends to say goodbye to Liverpool this summer.

Fellow midfielders Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are poised to leave the club when their contracts expire. They were already linked with moves back in January. However, nothing materialised. James Milner is sure to follow that trio out the door. A move to Brighton and Hove Albion is deemed likely, with the 38-year-old in the final year of his contract. Klopp stated earlier this week that Milner is leaning towards finishing his playing career elsewhere.

Star forward set to leave Liverpool

Anfield favourite Roberto Firmino has already declared that he will leave Liverpool when his contract expires in a few weeks. Firmino has scored over 100 goals for the Reds since signing from Hoffenheim eight years ago, earning him cult hero status. In recent months, though, he has been in and out of the team. The Brazilian is expected to pick clubs as a free agent. Barcelona is said to be interested in his services.

Financing Klopp’s ambitious rebuild might result in the release of some other players, including defenders Nat Philips and Rhys Williams. After appearing just once in the Premier League since the turn of the year, summer signing Fabio Carvalho may also be contemplating his future at Liverpool.
