Florentino Perez takes big dig at Barcelona, hints they are ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga because of ‘Negreira’

In a recent press event, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was asked by a Barcelona-biased journalist about the title differences between the two sides. The journalist asked him: “How do you explain that Barça win 10 La Liga’s for every 6 won by Real Madrid?” To this, Perez simply replied: “I would explain it to you but you won’t like it.”

This is a snarky answer from Perez, as he slyly indicates that Barca’s superior La Liga titles to Madrid could be because of their influence over referees. In reality, however, Madrid has won more Spanish top-division titles than Barca. Los Blancos have 35 league titles, as compared to Barca’s 26 and the Blaugrana won’t surpass Madrid even if they win the current La Liga title.

Tensions have been rising between the two Spanish clubs since the allegations broke out. Both clubs have been at each other’s throats since then. Recently, Joan Laporta accused Real Madrid of being the club of the regime being favored by then-Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. Real Madrid replied with the opposite theory providing evidence to support the same.

Real Madrid faces Girona on Tuesday in La Liga. Despite the title slipping away from them, they have progressed to the Copa del Ray finals and Champions League semifinals where they face Osasuna and Manchester City respectively. Barcelona on the other hand has only La Liga to focus on and faces Rayo Vallecano on Thursday.

Real Madrid center-back Antonio Rudiger has revealed an anecdote about a letter that he received from Florentino Perez back in 2016. The Real Madrid president wished the current Los Blancos player a speedy recovery after suffering an ACL injury during a Germany training session.” I received a letter from Florentino Perez in 2016, I had the letter every day in front of me and I asked myself: ‘A man like me?'”, Rudiger told.

“Before that letter, Real Madrid seemed far away to me. With the letter I thought ‘one day I will get there’. He wished me a speedy recovery. I couldn’t believe it. My mother has kept it.” Rudiger went on to reveal when was the moment that he felt that he was ready to make the leap to the La Liga Santander giants. “You know when I really realized I could go to Real Madrid? When I won the Champions League with Chelsea, then I knew I could go. At that moment I understood that I was ready to sign for Real Madrid. You want to be on the winning side, you have to go to Real Madrid.”

Rudiger also explained which were the reasons behind his decision to opt for Real Madrid instead of Paris Saint-Germain. “You were sending me a lot of messages about PSG but I thought: it’s not what I’m looking for,” Rudiger stressed. “I don’t really have anything against PSG. They are a great club, a nice club, doing everything well. But next to it, there is Real Madrid… Real Madrid!
