Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City was held to a draw by RB Leipzig in the first leg of the Round-of-16 in the UEFA Champions league match on Thursday. Manchester City was a victim of their lack of ruthlessness, as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Former Chelsea player and talkSPORT broadcaster Jason Cundy claimed that City lacked the ‘killer instinct’ they had in their previous title-winning seasons. He also claimed Arsenal are in a much better position to win the Premier League.

Riyad Mahrez scored City’s opening goal early in the 27th minute, however, they did not manage to extend their lead. RB Leipzig scored the equalizer in the 70th minute through a Josko Gvardiol header. City, who were far from their best self, could not take the lead against the German club. “City should have won that game tonight for me, but they didn’t. They’ll be disappointed but they’ll take them back to their place and beat them, that’s how I see it, I don’t see any other result.” Cundy stated, confident in City’s abilities.

“They lack that little bit of a killer instinct and it seems foolish saying it because they’ve got Haaland. He’s only scored one goal in the last six games now, he’s not quite at it.” Cundy added further, pointing out Erling Haaland’s goal drought in recent games. “But there’s something missing, they’re not quite as fluid, they’re not quite as City-like. They seem to have just dropped the tempo a little bit.

Norwegian striker Erling Haaland had a frustrating night in the UEFA Champions League RO16 first leg against RB Leipzig as City were held to a 1-1 draw. Manchester City managed only 3 shots on target despite having more than 70% possession in the game. Haaland did not manage to get a single touch inside the opponent’s box until late in the 68th minute. He managed to fire off a right-footed effort, which went wide of the post.

Jason Cundy, the broadcaster claimed that Haaland’s anonymity was due to the lack of forward passes from the midfielders. “Haaland is going absolutely berserk because they’re not looking to play the ball to him. I feel sorry for Haaland at times, he’s making really good runs and no one is really looking at him.” He further added. “What Gundogan needs to do is starting trying to find Haaland without Kevin De Bruyne on the pitch and that connection they have.”

Manchester City faces Bournemouth later this week on Saturday in their upcoming Premier League clash. They currently sit in the second position, 2 points behind league leaders Arsenal. Pep Guardiola’s side has played one more game than Arsenal. City will host RB Leipzig in their home ground on March 14 in the second leg of the Round of 16 which will be a must-win match for the Cityzens as they still look for their first Champions League medal.
