Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United footballer, was remanded in custody today after facing his alleged victim in court, where he was accused of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault on the teenage student.
The England winger was dressed in a grey sweatshirt and grey jogging bottoms when he appeared in Manchester Magistrates’ Court today. He was denied bail until his next appearance in crown court on November 21.
As he entered the courtroom, the 21-year-old was flanked by two dock officers. Before the court heard the specifics of the charges against him, he spoke to confirm his name, date of birth, and address.
The prosecutor, Rebecca Macaulay-Addison, told District Judge Mark Hadfield that the footballer was charged with attempting to rape a woman on October 22, 2021. Miss Macaulay-Addison elaborated Greenwood is also accused of controlling or coercive behavior, specifically ”monitoring her social media accounts and making threats and derogatory comments towards her, amounting to a serious effect on her.”
Mason Greenwood is also accused of assault causing actual physical harm
The woman who accused him of attempted rape and other crimes was present in court. Members of Greenwood’s family filled the small courtroom’s public gallery. The judge later adjourned the proceedings after denying Greenwood bail. On November 21, he is scheduled to appear in Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
Before being taken down by two dock officers, the 21-year-old looked at his family. The player was arrested for the first time in January on allegations involving a young woman after images and videos were posted online.
