Before Kyle Walker became an integral part of the Manchester City centurion and treble-winning side, he started off his career with Sheffield United. The young Walker used to play in the Championship before he made his name in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur. Now, a former Blades player, Billy Sharp, talked about the right back’s time in the club.

Talking to the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Sharp recounted the time Walker used to clean his boots. He later spoke about the time they had a pre-season tour to Malta, where Walker and fellow player, Kyle Naughton, had the best rooms. So the team kicked the two out of their rooms.

Walker made his senior debut for the club in 2008 but only played 2 matches at the club. He was then bought by Spurs, along with Naughton. The two were purchased for GBP. 9 million. Walker went on to play for the Lilywhites for 8 years before leaving for City, while Naughton left two years before him.

Manchester City start searching for Kyle Walker’s successor

Kyle Walker was very close to leaving Manchester City during the 2023 Summer Transfer Window. Bayern Munich was very close to signing the 33-year-old, but Walker decided to stay and signed a 3-year contract extension.

Despite the extension, City are in the market looking for their next right back. Walker is at the twilight of his career, and with age catching up it is obvious that there will be a drop in performance.

According to Miguel Delaney from ‘The Independent’, the club has already found the player to succeed Walker. He is the current Chelsea captain- Reece James. 23-year-old James broke into the Chelsea first team in 2019 and was a part of their Champions League winning side in 2021.

Reece James is highly rated by clubs around the world, with even Real Madrid being linked to the Chelsea captain. Despite his quality, his availability remains one of his biggest problems. In the 2023/24 Premier League, he has not played a complete match and in the past two seasons he managed to play only 41 matches.
