Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys secretly tied the knot with his daughter’s friend in Devon on Wednesday. Earlier, Keys reportedly denied falling in love with the young lawyer when his wife was fighting cancer. Keys married Lucie Rose in a £20,000 ceremony. The occasion was attended by family and friends. Although it didn’t include his Jemma or son Joshua.
Keys reportedly proposed to Lucie two years ago. But Covid 19 postponed the wedding several times. They finally made it to the aisle last weekend in an open-air civil ceremony in Kingswear near Brixham, Devon. The couple was pictured on social media last week enjoying drinks at a luxurious five-star hotel in London. Two months back in April, they reportedly sent out invitations to guests along with a £45 bottle of personalized Veuve Clicquot champagne.
Before the ceremony, while speaking to The Sun, Keys talked about his excitement over the ceremony. He said, “I’m a very lucky man, although feeling a bit nervous. We’re heading off to Canada for our honeymoon which is a bit different. Then it’s back to work for both of us in August and the start of the football season for me. People think I might be a bit long in the tooth now but I don’t care.”
The former Sky Sports presenter reportedly split with Julia Keys after 36 years of marriage after news of his shocked relationship with the young lawyer emerged in 2016. Back then his former partner revealed how the alleged affair devastated her as she recovered from thyroid cancer.
The news also wrecked the lives of their two children. Julia said the affair ruined the career of her daughter as she spiraled into alcoholism and depression. Jemma faced legal action as well for a string of abusive texts she sent to Lucie. Although the prosecutors, in the end, dropped the charges against her.
During an interview with the Athletic back in 2019, Keys denied leaving his wife while she had cancer. He said, “I’ll mention the unmentionable for you. Did I leave my wife fighting cancer? No. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know why our marriage ended the way it did. But my wife was fighting cancer for seven years before I left her. And she had been in remission for seven years. She and I went to London every day of her fight. This was prior to a ground-breaking operation that saw her in a period of recovery.”
