France have beaten Morocco 4-0 to qualify for the quarter-final in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. They continued their undefeated run after they drew to Jamaica 0-0 and then beat Brazil and Panama 2-1 and 6-3 respectively. Morocco, on the other hand, were battered by Germany 6-0 in their first game. But they recovered and defeated South Korea and Colombia 1-0.

France coach Herve Renard, best known for coaching Saudi Arabia’s men’s team to a victory against eventual champions Argentina in the group stages of the World Cup, made five changes to his team. Morocco on the other hand went unchanged from when they faced Colombia. They had huge responsibility coming into the game, as they were only the second African country to reach the last 16 of the tournament.

It didn’t take France too long to take control of the game. Kadidiatou Diani gave them the lead within 15 minutes, heading a cross from Sakina Karchaoui. Moroccans were struggling to get hold of Diani as she was running havoc through the wings. It wasn’t too long when she assisted Kenza Dali in the 20th minute to extend the lead to two goals. Just three minutes later, Diani assisted again. This time to Eugenie Le Sommer who easily tapped the ball into the net.

By halftime, France had pretty much sealed the game. Diani who had been in terrific form since scoring a hat trick against Panama, continued it by scoring one goal and providing two assists. At the start of the second half, Morocco improved and started getting a couple of chances. However, they couldn’t finish any of it, resulting in France extending their lead in the 70th minute to 4-0.
