Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two greatest players of all time. Fans debate who amongst them is better and the ‘GOAT.’  Followers have their preferences for liking one over the other. Even France’s President Emmanuel Macron has joined the party as he picked his side in a recent interview.

The video by Brut. Media shows the president swarmed with people when one journalist asked him to pick between the two. Macron said that he likes Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi. In a video that is now viral, the President is seen making the comment. When the President was asked about who he prefers? Macron replied without taking a second, “I prefer Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Lionel Messi not being preferred by Macron is a given since Messi led Argentina to a victory in the world cup finals against France. The Argentine since has become a less popular icon in France, with Messi even being boo-ed by PSG supporters. Messi also held the World Cup win over France responsible for the issues between him and his teammates, including Kylian Mbappe.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo himself is an icon of the game and deserves all plaudits and fan following he has. Both the players have accolades that are legendary. They have combined to win a total of 12 Ballon d’Or. However, their era in Europe has now come to an end, with Cristiano playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and Messi heading off to the shores of Miami, to play at Inter Miami CF.

Ilkay Gundogan has compared former Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland to Cristiano and Messi. The Norwegian had an incredible season as he scored 52 goals in all competitions for Manchester City. He was an integral part of the City’s treble win.

Gundogan first expressed his doubts about Haaland when he first landed. He said “Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect when he came here. You see the goals and all the attention that he was getting at Dortmund, and you wonder if he’s going to fit with the group.”

 However, his doubts vanished quickly when he met Haaland. Gundogan added, “But when I got to know him, I was so surprised how someone could be that talented and still have the will to be even better every single day. He’s never satisfied. I feel like there are no limits for him. Messi and Ronaldo are the only comparison for the level he could reach.”
