The Former Ballon d’Or winner and French footballer Karim Benzema, has recently taken to social media platforms, and used to voice his anger towards Israel for their airstrike in Gaza. The attacks have been termed inhumane by many big superstars and leaders.
The former Real Madrid player had written on his Twitter account, “All our prayers for the habitants of Gaza, once again victims of these unjust bombings that spare neither women nor children.” Fans called him a hero and bombarded his social media with praise, calling him, “People’s Ballon d’Or winner.” But, he seems to have come under the radar of a French senator who thinks he needs to be stripped of his citizenship as well as the Ballon d’Or.
Senator Valerie Boyer has asked for the player to be stripped of the prestigious Ballon d’Or award. He currently holds the distinction as the recent recipient, and the France Football Association awards it.
“We cannot accept that a French dual national, internationally known, could dishonor and even betray our country in this way.” She posted on her Instagram story. But it has not gone to her plan, as fans have paraded her socials with GIFs of Karim Benzema and Palestinian flags in the comments.
