An unbelievable scene occurred in the French third division as goalkeeper Anthony Beuve became the match’s hero. Beuve first saved a Panenka penalty and then went to score a header, which served as the extra-time equalizer for his side.
The match was between US Avranches and Grand Ouest Association Lyonnaise (GOAL). Beuve faced the spot kick when his team was down and became the hero by stopping his opponents from extending their lead.
He further went on to be on the better end of another spot-kick. His teammates took a free-kick from an acute angle, and Beuve scored the header just before the opponent keeper grabbed the ball.
It also drew comparison to Lazio‘s goalkeeper Ivan Provedel -who scored in the dying moments of their game against Atletico Madrid to guide their team’s equalizer in the Champions League. Meanwhile, this also reminded fans of the incident when Liverpool‘s Alisson Becker scored for the club just after his father’s demise.
Goalkeepers scoring in football is always a bizarre sight, which, whenever captured, serves as a treat to the eyes, as they are the unlikeliest players to score.
When Ivan Provedel scored as the goalkeeper in the Champions League
In a thrilling Champions League encounter, Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel delivered an astonishing moment by scoring a dramatic equalizer against Atletico Madrid. Lazio had been trailing 1-0 since Pablo Barrios’ first-half strike, and with seconds left in the opening group stage match, Provedel ventured forward for a late corner. Luis Alberto’s precise cross found Provedel, who executed a brilliant header, sending the ball into the corner of the net.

This incredible goal sent Stadio Olimpico into a frenzy, with the Lazio bench rushing onto the pitch to celebrate with the goalkeeper. Provedel, at 29 years old, became only the fourth goalkeeper in Champions League history to score and the first since Vincent Enyeama achieved the feat for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the 2010 qualifying rounds.
Lazio’s manager, Maurizio Sarri, believed his team deserved the draw against Atletico Madrid despite trailing at halftime. He stated, “Trailing at halftime considering the way the two teams had played their football was not fair.”
