The Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been a crucial part of Barcelona since he signed for them. In spite of de Jong being a ball-carrying attacking central midfielder, he has a great long-ball success rate. It is absolutely mental that Frenkie has the ability to distribute long balls as well as contribute to the attacking aspect of the game.

The Dutchman has been long linked with a move to Old Trafford. Since former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag joined the Red Devils, he has been wanting to reunite with Frenkie at Manchester.
De Jong was a part of the Ajax team which had a majestic run in the Champions League of 2018 reaching the semifinals. ETH wants to recreate that magic in the Premier League with the 24-year-old at his disposal.
Though he has expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona, Manchester United has submitted a couple of official bids which is really close to the €80 million asking price for de Jong.
Another reason for de Jong wanting to stay at the Catalan club is missing out on champions league football with Manchester United. The Red Devils failed to qualify for the champions league and finished sixth this season under Ralf Rangnick.
On the other hand, Barcelona head coach Xavi really likes De Jong and would only let him go if the club is capable of signing Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva.
