Frenkie de Jong might denounce FC Barcelona soon over a planned media slander campaign against him: Reports
Frankie de jong and Laporta
Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Frankie de Jong is reportedly very pissed at the club regarding the treatment with him. He firmly considers that he is a victim of a planned media slander campaign.
The player’s entourage has chosen to contact AFE, FIFpro, and the La Liga to denounce the Catalan club for their unfair treatment with the player. According to club insiders, Barcelona warned Frenkie de Jong in a letter in July that the extension deal he signed in 2020 under the previous board contained suspected violations.
According to sources close to the player who spoke with ESPN, the contract is legitimate, and the letter Barcelona issued was an attempt to get the Netherlands midfielder to accept a move away from the Camp Nou or a pay cut.
What will be Frenkie de Jong’s future?
Barca required the cash to register their new recruits without going over LaLiga’s pay cap at the time the letter was delivered because they had achieved a preliminary agreement with Manchester United for De Jong in a deal for a total of €85 million.
Last weekend, sources at Barcelona informed ESPN that club president Joan Laporta and coach Xavi Hernandez favored the idea of De Jong staying at the Camp Nou with a pay reduction. The player, in Xavi’s opinion, is significant since he can play a variety of roles. The same club sources said it was possible for Barcelona to inform De Jong he was surplus to requirements if he refused to decrease his salary or agree to go in order to put more pressure on him.
De Jong, according to ESPN, wants to stay at Camp Nou and has stated repeatedly that he doesn’t want to sign with a team like Man United, who won’t compete in the Champions League this year.
