Marco Silva has expressed frustration at the controversial second goal allowed by match officials during Fulham’s 5-1 defeat to Manchester City. The incident occurred just before halftime, when City’s Nathan Ake scored with a header. Fulham argued that City defender Manuel Akanji, who was in an offside position, had played a role in the goal by impacting goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Despite protests and a VAR review, the goal stood, and City secured a comfortable victory with a second-half hat-trick from Erling Haaland. Marco Silva criticized the decision, stating, “Everyone that plays football, everyone that has played football, everyone that has some football knowledge has to disallow that goal.” He argued that the goal was a clear offside and should have been disallowed.

The controversial decision affected Fulham’s performance in the second half, and Silva acknowledged its impact on his players. He also commented on the emotional state of Joao Palhinha. The player almost moved to Bayern Munich on deadline day, but unfortunately, the deal collapsed.

Manchester City’s assistant boss, Juanma Lillo, praised Erling Haaland’s performance in the match, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess and intelligence on the field. Haaland empathized with Fulham and their frustration with the decision, stating that he would also be “fuming” in their position. Even Nathan Ake confessed post-match that it would be hard to be on the other end of his ‘controversial‘ goal. Nonetheless, there was a massive gap in quality between the two teams.

As Manchester City resume their conquest for a fourth title in a row, Pep Guardiola is recovering in Barcelona. However, the Champions have left no stone unturned in their efforts to showcase their quality so far. It’s no wonder that Treble Winners are finding it comfortable to keep up their quality, thanks to their fantastic squad depth.

Yet again, Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland came to City’s rescue in a man-of-the-match performance. He secured his fifth hattrick in the league and his seventh in total for the club. He became the fastest player to reach 50 goals, ahead of legends like Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Andrew Cole. Haaland helped City open the scoresheet with a sublime pass between Diop’s legs for a comfortable finish to Julian Alvares, then scoring two first-time shots and a penalty.

With the UEFA Player of The Year picking up his ‘robotic‘ form, teams facing Manchester City must delve into a masterplan to stop the Norweigan. City remains the only unbeaten team and sits at the top of the table with 12 points. Even with the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden has stepped up in midfield, as Jeremy Doku also made his debut. It certainly will be historic if City manages to defend their throne again, as four in four has never been done before.
