Hakim Ziyech has become a fringe player for Chelsea in the past 2 years. The Moroccan went the entire 2022/23 without a single goal and when Pochettino arrived, he was sent on loan to Galatasaray. So far he has played 14 matches and scored 4 goals across all competitions.

With Ziyech set to go to Ivory Coast for the African Cup of Nations, the Turkish giants are considering releasing the midfielder from his loan. Although he was vital in their Champions League run, with a man-of-the-match performance against Manchester United, he has missed 11 matches due to fitness issues and injury.

These absences are not acceptable for the club, and Ziyech is set to miss a minimum of 6 matches. If Morocco do make the finals, he could miss up to 9-10 matches, which include fixtures against İstanbul Başakşehir and Sparta Praha.

His loan period was supposed to end on 30th June 2024, just before the start of the 2024/25 season. Ziyech tried to get moves to Paris Saint Germain and Al Nassr, but both those moves failed. Already looking for a move away from the English capital, he grabbed the first chance to leave England for Turkey.

Will Hakim Ziyech make his way back into Chelsea’s squad: What’s next for him?

Being purchased for £40 million in 2020, many expected Hakim Ziyech to become one of Chelsea’s best players. Unfortunately, the Moroccan midfielder didn’t settle in the club and struggled in his first season, scoring only 6 goals. He was often used as a substitute during the Blues 2021 Champions League triumph.

In the next two seasons, he managed a combined 8 goals and 6 assists. He quickly started to drop to the bench and got less and less starts. In the 2022-23 season, he was close to getting a loan move to French giants PSG, but Chelsea submitted the wrong documents which canceled the move.

As of now, it looks like Galatasaray could release Ziyech from his loan. His fitness problems and absence due to AFCON will most probably send him back to England. The loan deal also had an obligation that could make the move permanent, but now that seems unlikely. Ziyech’s contract at Chelsea runs till 2025, but with both parties looking to move on from each other, it is more likely that he will soon leave the club.
