More than a year after the pair announced their separation, new information has been revealed about Gerard Pique‘s split with Shakira. The pair dated for almost 12 years before their inevitable split in June 2022.
The Former World Cup winner with Spain recently came on the Catalan radio station ‘Rac1’ where he clarified certain facts with regards to his breakup with world-renowned singer, Shakira.
Pique opened up to the radio host and said:
People don't know ten percent of what really happened. They are basing themselves on information that for the most part is not real.
Pique was widely scrutinized by media outlets and social media users after it came out that their split occurred due to his affair with 24-year-old, Clara Chia Marti. Subsequently, Shakira famously released a ‘diss track’ aimed towards her former partner with the help of Argentine producer, Bizarrap. Aiming several attacks towards Pique, the pressure from media outlets was compounded by Shakira’s song.
Ex-Barcelona legend also addressed the abuse he faced following the split. He said:
If I had given importance to everything that was said about me, I would be locked in my flat or I would have thrown myself off the sixth floor...
Pique claims now, he is fully focused on his relationship with Clara Chia and no longer thinks about Shakira anymore.
The former couple, while separated, have two kids together, Milan and Sasha which has made it difficult for the two parties to remain completely uninvolved with each other.
Timeline of Gerard Pique and Shakira’s relationship
The former power couple first encountered each other during the production of the 2010 FIFA World Cup song ‘Waka Waka’. Shakira was filming the music video, and Pique had a minor role. Pique explained how it all unfolded, mentioning that their connection began in South Africa. He messaged her, expressing that they needed to reach the World Cup final to meet again, as she was scheduled to perform at the final.
In 2011, the couple confirmed their relationship. Just over a year later, they were expecting their first child, Milan, born in 2013. Initially, they expressed no interest in marriage. In 2017, Shakira released “Me Enamoré,” meaning “I love you” in English. In 2020, she shared:
I don't want him to see me as the wife. I'd rather him see me as his girlfriend...I want him to think that anything's possible depending on behavior.
However, after a public announcement, the couple broke up. And now, a year later, both sides continue to make headlines.
