Spanish journalist Gerard Romero threatened La Liga officials, stating he would reveal a startling VAR audio if Vitor Roque’s red card decision was not overturned. The Brazilian winger was controversially sent off during Barcelona’s win against Alaves.

The incident that enraged fans and raised questions on La Liga’s refereeing standards was Vitor Roque’s controversial red card. The 18-year-old was sent off 13 minutes after entering the game, receiving two yellow cards within four minutes. The second yellow card generated controversy, as the player was booked for a minor foul on Alaves defender Rafa Marin. Before his dismissal, Roque had scored a goal for the Catalan side.

Journalist Gerard Romero, known to be close to Barcelona president Joan Laporta, in a recent Twitch stream following the club’s 3-1 win over Alaves, issued a warning to La Liga officials. He threatened to disclose an alleged VAR audio revealing inconsistencies that could spark significant controversy if Roque’s red card was not removed. He had previously released VAR audio from Real Madrid vs. Almeria and Barcelona vs. Getafe.

Moreover, the Catalan club and their manager Xavi expressed similar disappointment over the referee’s decision. Further, they have appealed against it, awaiting a favorable outcome.

Roque was brought in as a substitute in the 59th minute against Alaves but had to leave the pitch after being awarded a red card for a foul on Rafa Marin. In the post-match conference, the team’s manager expressed frustration.

He claimed that the club was still bearing the consequences of the Negreira case. Moreover, he urged league officials to ensure fair competition for the team and declared his decision not to discuss referee decisions further.
