England National Football Team captain Harry Kane has come out in full support of his compatriot Harry Maguire, who is again at the butt of abuse and hate. This statement came before Kane’s Bayern Munich faced Maguire’s Manchester United in the Champions League. He labeled the hatred and criticism faced by Maguire as ‘Unnecessary scrutiny’. He then supported the defender who guided his country to the Euro 2022 finals.
Harry Kane further emphasized that Maguire might be one of the ‘best ever’ defenders to have represented England. He articulated that Maguire had unfairly singled out after scoring an own goal against Scotland for the country. “I think Harry has come under scrutiny… I’d go as far as to say that he has been one of our best defenders over the history of our country in an England shirt,” Kane said, as quoted by ESPN UK.
He acknowledged that everyone is entitled to their opinions in the age of social media. However, they don’t have to express them at the expense of someone else’s mental well-being. Maguire is a central figure for the National side. He was selected even after having a not-so-impressionable season with Manchester United. This shows his manager, Gareth Southgate, still has confidence in him, who came out in the player’s support.
Nonetheless, Harry Kane’s support for Harry Maguire shows the synergy and camaraderie that the current English side exhibits. Everyone has acknowledged Maguire’s quality, from Aaron Ramsdale to his club players. Despite him being made the ‘scapegoat’ multiple times.
Andre Onana opens up on his relationship with Harry Maguire
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has clarified his relationship with teammate Harry Maguire ahead of their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich. Despite a heated exchange during a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund, Onana insists that he and Maguire share a positive relationship.
He revealed that they had recently spoken before the team departed for Germany, emphasizing that what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch, and they are both focused on their professional roles. Maguire has faced significant criticism recently, with limited playing time and criticism for an own goal in an England match.
However, Onana defended Maguire, asserting that the scrutiny had been unfair. He also expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to overcome challenges, highlighting the importance of unity and intense performances as Manchester United looks to make a mark in the Champions League.
