Harry Kane to wear the “OneLove” armband in support of LGBTQ+ community at the World Cup in Qatar, even if FIFA prohibit it: Reports

Despite FIFA’s prohibition, Harry Kane will use a OneLove armband during the World Cup in Qatar. England will don a rainbow captain’s armband during the competition, the FA confirmed in September, as part of an anti-discrimination drive and in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

The organizing committee is adamant that England’s captain will carry the armband, even if doing so puts FIFA punishments on the line. Captains from nine European nations, including England and Wales, will wear the armbands at the World Cup.

Wearing the armbands requires approval from FIFA. Three weeks ago, the UEFA Working Group on Qatar requested permission from FIFA. They are still awaiting an answer.

On Wednesday, a representative from the organization will meet with FIFA in Zurich and request an update. The delegation will also talk about establishing a welfare center for migrant employees in Doha as well as creating a compensation fund for migrant workers and their families. Despite being working group participants, the FA is not a part of the delegation going to Zurich this week.

Kane was questioned on Tuesday if he would be content to wear the armband even if it were against the law. “I think it’s a topic that’s hard to answer right now”, he remarked, at Tottenham’s pre-match news conference prior to their Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt.

“We’ve decided we want to wear it and that’s our thought process going forward. It’ll be down to FIFA and the FA – I’m sure they’ll be in contact with them.

“I haven’t heard anything personally yet so at the moment we’re online to wear it so if anything changes we’ll cross that bridge when it comes.”

The Three Lions will be heading to Qatar with a strong squad and an expectation of running deep in the World Cup. England manager Gareth Southgate will be under pressure ahead of this World Cup.
