England Defender Harry Maguire has been on a poor run of form for his club Manchester United. Following his latest appearance for The Three Lions, the Manchester United defender has been at the end of social media criticism and trolls. The 30-year-old defender had a night to forget when England clashed against Scotland in a friendly on Wednesday. The away side (England) were leading by two goals to none when Harry Maguire came on in the second half.

Goals from Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham gave the visitors a comfortable 2-goal lead over the home side. Marc Guéhi was replaced by Harry Maguire in the 46th minute. It was smooth sailing for almost 20 minutes until Harry Maguire had a moment to forget. John McGinn‘s low-driven cross into the danger area was intercepted by Maguire. However, his timely presence proved to be otherwise as the ball tumbled off of his leg and over a diving Aaron Ramsdale.

Scotland found their way back into the game after Harry Maguire’s error. However, his mistake did not cost Southgate’s side as Captain Harry Kane restored the visitors’ 3-goal lead after Jude Bellingham deftly danced his way through midfield before putting it on a plate for the Bayern Munich man. England comfortably saw off Scotland in their last game before the close of the International break. Maguire came under intense criticism and trolls on Social Media following his error.

Harry Maguire’s unfortunate error in the 67th minute gave the home side a lifeline. Already on a poor run of form for Manchester United as well, Maguire was crucified on social media, with Head Coach Gareth Southgate coming to his defense. From things going bad to worse for the 30-year-old, the own goal has Netizens on Twitter laughing. Clips of his error and reactions have gone viral with many questioning Southgate’s inclusion of the player after his disastrous form at United.

Maguire’s last outing for United ended with an embarrassing loss to Arsenal at the Emirates. The Red Devils were thoroughly dismantled as Arsenal won the game 3-1 in which Maguire was involved in conceding the 2nd and 3rd. After poor performances, he has gone down in the pecking order for the Red Devils and is not first choice for Gareth Southgate as well. United face Brighton after the International Break on Saturday.
