English center-back Harry Maguire has seen a resurgence in his form ever since he was re-integrated into the Manchester United playing XI. Since he was brought back in early October, the defender has helped keep three clean sheets in seven starts in the league. Moreover, the team has gained 15 points out of a possible 21.
To acknowledge his brilliant form, the Premier League has awarded Maguire the Player of the Month award. In a vote that included fans, all 20 captains, and a panel of experts, the award was given to the defender who kept three clean sheets in November.
He beat opponents from the Premier League like Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling, Bournemouth’s Marcus Tavernier, Manchester City’s Jeremey Doku, Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, and Luton Town’s Thomas Kaminski. Kaminski and Maguire were the only non-forwards who were nominated as well.
Before the results were announced, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Premier League had given the award to Harry Maguire. He became the first Red Devil to pick up the award, with Marcus Rashford being the last recipient of the award. He is also the first defender to be awarded the Player of the Month award after Joel Matip, who won it in February 2022.
Harry Maguire’s incredible November
Manchester United played three Premier League matches in the month of November. They faced Fulham, Luton Town, and Everton in those three matches, and they won each game. They beat Fulham 0-1, Luton Town 1-0, and Everton 0-3. United did not concede a single goal as well.
Harry Maguire had a great month, as he had three clean sheets. At the same time, he also won 16 aerial duels, had 20 clearances, blocked six shots, and was dribbled past only once. He did not contribute any goals or assists but ensured his team won matches thanks to his defensive contributions.
Erik ten Hag’s men currently sit 7th in the Premier League table, winning 8 and losing 6. They lost their first match of December against Newcastle United, losing 1-0.
Now they have a tough period ahead, as they face Chelsea, Bournemouth, Liverpool, West Ham, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest. With some players set to return from injury, the club could have a chance of getting past these tough fixtures.
