Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has once again found himself at the end of social media abuse and trolling. He was brought on against Scotland, and every time he touched the ball, the Scottish crowd jeered the defender. This decreased his confidence and eventually left him scoring his own goal some moments later.
Maguire has also had a tough time for his club, where he constantly fights for his place. So far, his only Premier League appearance has been a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal. There have been multiple videos of him receiving abuse from fans and harsh messages, even when signing autographs. This has eventually resulted in his mom, Zoe Maguire, taking a solid stance for her son in a heartfelt social media message.
She described the negativity and abusive comments directed at her son as ‘disgraceful’. She said that anyone with less mental strength would have succumbed to the treatment. While writing on her Instagram story, she stated, “I understand that in the football world there are ups and downs, positives and negatives but what Harry receives has gone far beyond “football”.”
Even English manager Gareth Southgate and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale have supported the player. They called the treatment extreme and uncalled for.

In recent years, however, there have been increasing concerns over social media racism and abuse directed at players. Pundits have heavily criticized the platforms for excessively promoting free speech. As Maguire’s mother addresses, it also brings a lot of misery to the family of the professional concerned. Her call for collective efforts to foster a more respectful and supportive environment for everyone is undoubtedly essential, given the current state.
Anthony Martial leaves Manchester United training in less than five minutes
Anthony Martial‘s unexpected and brief appearance at Manchester United’s Carrington training complex on Thursday morning has left the Internet giggling. Witnesses noted that the French forward arrived at the facility at 8:56 a.m. He departed just four minutes later at 9:00 a.m. The reason for this hasty exit was a scheduling mix-up, as Martial believed training was set for that early hour. While the rest of the squad was due to arrive at 11:30 a.m., with training commencing at 12:30 p.m.
This incident comes amid increased scrutiny of Martial’s performances on the pitch. Despite starting in the last two games against Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, he struggled to make a significant impact, failing to score in either match and being substituted on both occasions. Now, with the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund, a £72 million signing, Martial’s place in the starting lineup may be in jeopardy.

Hojlund is expected to lead the attack for Manchester United in their upcoming clash against Brighton at Old Trafford. Martial’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain, particularly given his contract expiration next summer. While the club has the option to extend his contract for an additional year, his ongoing struggles to secure a regular spot in the starting XI could potentially lead to his departure, should his performance woes persist.
