Has Yaya Toure finally lifted the ‘Champions League curse’ from Pep Guardiola and Manchester City? Fans opine

Yaya Toure and Pep Guardiola
Fans of Manchester City believe Yaya Toure may have lifted the team’s “Champions League curse”. City has had a few close calls in Europe while dominating domestically for the past ten years.
Toure, who played for Guardiola, was present for the draw on Thursday night in Istanbul, Turkey, the host city of the final. Group G members for City included Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, and Copenhagen. Numerous fans believe that because City legend Toure had wished his former employers “good luck,” the alleged curse is no longer there.
Real Madrid has twice eliminated Pep Guardiola’s team in the semi-finals, most recently in overtime last season following a thrilling second-leg comeback by Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu. City got the closest in 2021, but in Porto, they were defeated 1-0 by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. Devastating knockout stage losses to teams like Monaco and Lyon in 2017 and 2020, respectively, have also occurred.
In the past ten years, Guardiola has had difficulty finding success in Europe for a variety of reasons. Erling Haaland’s £51 million addition, however, is what City is hoping can make the difference in crucial situations.
An African curse is impeding Manchester City in the Champions League

The sky blues are perennial favourites, but Toure’s outspoken agent, Dimitri Seluk, controversially asserted that Guardiola and City are being hindered in the Champions League by an African curse as punishment for the way he treated the Ivorian.
“He [Guardiola] turned all Africa against himself, many African fans turned away from Manchester City,” said Seluk.
“And I’m sure that many African shamans in the future will not allow Guardiola to win the Champions League.
“This will be for Guardiola an African curse. Life will show whether I am right or not.“
