“He changed his game because he no longer has the physicality that he did ten years ago”- Former Barcelona player Ludovic Giuly on Lionel Messi after his dreadful season at PSG

In a recent interview with the French media, former Barcelona player Ludovic Giuly explained that Lionel Messi has “changed his style of play” after he joined PSG this season. Giuly stated that Messi has adapted new gameplay for Kylian Mbappe, as the Frenchman operates at a much faster speed than Messi. The former French player further stressed that Lionel Messi has left the physicality and speed that he acquired due to growing older.
“He (Messi) changed his game because he no longer has the physicality that he did ten years ago. He adapted to Kylian who goes 2000 miles an hour and who is the best player at PSG,” said Giuly.
According to Ludovic Giuly, Messi knows that maybe he won’t find many goals as he did in Barcelona, so he shifted from a prolific goal scorer to an assist maker which will be more effective with a striker like Mbappe, who looms as a threat to many defenders.
“It is his intelligence to say to himself: ‘Maybe I won’t score 30 goals, but if I make 15 or 20 assists, that’s good too.’ Even though I know he would like to be even more decisive,” added the former Barcelona player.
Lionel Messi at Barcelona vs Messi at PSG

Lionel Messi joined PSG from Barcelona after serving the Spanish side for 17 years. However, he shifted to PSG in 2021 since Barcelona couldn’t continue Messi’s term further due to legal problems from the Spanish board. He partnered with Neymar, Mbappe, and Di Maria following his move to the French champions.
However, his first season at the new club is proving to be a disaster with only 3 goals in 22 appearances for the Les Parisians. Had it been five years back, Messi would have been more dangerous and a threat with his dribbling ability and scoring more than 30 goals per season. Messi had been clever enough to let Neymar and Mbappe lead the attacking line with Messi providing balls and serving goals on the plate.
