“He doesn’t deserve it; Finished player”- Fans react after Lionel Messi fails to secure a top-30 Ballon d’Or nomination for the first time since 2005
Lionel Messi
France Football has released the list of the final 30 nominees for the Ballon d’Or Award. And in a recent update, Lionel Messi, the titleholder at the moment, is not included on the shortlist.
Lionel Messi currently holds the record for the most Ballon d’Or awards, having taken home the coveted Golden Orb seven times in the course of his legendary career. The most recent Ballon d’Or title for the former Barcelona captain occurred in 2021, following his Copa del Rey and Copa America victories with the Blaugrana and the Argentina national team.
Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Barcelona last summer. The global superstar, however, had a challenging adjustment period when he first moved to France due to ailments and covid issues. Toward the end of the season, the 35-year-old was back to nearly his peak form, and PSG went on to win Ligue 1. Messi did not, however, succeed in making it into the final 30 candidates for the 2020 Ballon d’Or. Neymar, a PSG colleague and former Barcelona star, does not make the cut either, joining Messi.
