“He has more goals”- Erling Haaland sets eyes on next major target after scoring first hat-trick in Premier League

Erling Haaland and Alfie Haaland

Erling Haaland scored his first hat-trick in English football and quipped that his next ambition is to surpass his father Alfie’s total of Premier League goals.

“My dad will probably still say he has more goals in the Premier League than me so I will chase that,” Erling Haaland stated. He also said “It’s not easy to come to a new club, a new country so it has been a good start. It’s a really good feeling. A proud moment for me and my family. We keep going. These games are why I’m here – to turn thing around when there are difficult times.

In City’s 4-2 comeback victory over Crystal Palace, Haaland was unstoppable, scoring three goals in 19 minutes after the visitors had led 2-0 at the break. With six goals in his first four games, the £51 million Norwegian striker is off to the finest start since Diego Costa for Chelsea in 2014.

However, he said that his father still has the right to gloat because, in nine years as a midfielder for Nottingham Forest, Leeds, and City, he scored 18 Premier League goals.

The ability to score goals sets Erling Haaland apart from other players

The former Borussia Dortmund player credited his team’s collective spirit for the comeback, but he said that City needed to improve after falling behind twice in their last two Premier League games. “It’s a mentality that we trust each other and we know the chances will come.” Haaland said.

“It’s about keeping going. In the end we scored four goals and that’s a really good thing.

“It’s a warning that we have to become better, training hard and develop. When we play at home we shouldn’t concede early goals. It’s about working harder.”

With six goals in only four games this season, Haaland’s record is already exceptional. The 22-year-old Norwegian has already scored more goals than his father did during his time at City, and he has already made plans to be the best in the league.
