“He is a child that we have seen grow up”- French Club OL President expresses enormous pride for Karim Benzema after his Ballon d’Or win
Jean Michel-Aulas and Karim Benzema
Jean Michel-Aulas, president of Olympique Lyonnais, has expressed his happiness at Karim Benzema winning the Ballon d’Or for the first time in his career in 2022. The fact that the young player who flourished under his guidance at Lyon went on to become the finest player in the world was something Michel-Aulas described as being “a source of tremendous pleasure and emotion.”
The president of Lyon praised Benzema’s Ballon d’Or win as a “wonderful story” of an immigrant youth succeeding greatly in France. Benzema came from a family of Algerian immigrants who lived in the difficult Bron neighborhood in the Metropolis of Lyon, in eastern France.
Jean Michel-Aulas stated “It’s a great source of pride and emotion, because Karim is a kid from OL. He is a child that we have seen grow up and that we have seen blossom. It’s a beautiful story, that of a young man from an immigrant background who is doing extremely well in France.”

Karim Benzema defeated rivals for the Ballon d’Or by the second-largest margin ever
Benzema was expected to win the award for best player, but there was a lot of debate, interest, and curiosity about the margin by which the Frenchman would triumph. Benzema finally won the Ballon d’Or with the second-largest margin of points in the award’s history, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo in 2016. This information was revealed in a report by Marca. Benzema earned 549 points overall, 356 more than Sadio Mane, who came in second.
Further voting-related disclosures include the fact that Benzema was selected as the Ballon d’Or winner by 89 of the 93 journalists from different countries across the world. The only journalists who did not select the star as their first preference were those from Egypt, Senegal, the Netherlands, and Slovenia.
They supported Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Senegal’s Sadio Mane, the Netherlands’ Salah, and Slovenia’s Kevin De Bruyne. Surprisingly, the Slovenian journalist placed Benzema third from the bottom, behind De Bruyne and Lewandowski.
In any case, Benzema won the Ballon d’Or with ease and glory, and the votes against him were not enough to eclipse his widespread popularity.
